Andreescu, Robillard-Millette and Sebov are throuogh to round two at the Saguenay National Bank Challenger

First round matches continued on Tuesday at the $50,000 Saguenay National Bank Challenger and the schedule featured a quartet of Canadians.

Qualifier Katherine Sebov (Toronto, ON) started the day with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Naomi Totka of Hungary 6-2, 6-3.

Tuesday’s evening session began with an encounter between Bianca Andreescu (Toronto, ON) and defending Saguenay champion Jovana Jaksic of Serbia. The 16-year-old Canadian came away with a 6-4, 6-2 victory.

“It was a very good day, I played well and I stuck with the game plan. I stayed aggressive and tried to change the rhythm as much as possible. It’s an important win for me,” Andreescu said after the match.

Qualifier Charlotte Robillard-Millette (Blainville, QC) joined her compatriots in the second round after knocking out fifth-seeded American Jessica Pegula 6-1, 3-6, 6-1. She will face American Jessica Wacnik on Wednesday.

For her part, Gabriela Dabrowski (Ottawa, ON) was defeated in a tight contest 6-7(1), 6-3, 7-6(10) by American Maria Sanchez after holding multiple match points in the third set.

Canadians Françoise Abanda (Montreal, QC) and Aleksandra Wozniak (Blainville, QC) will begin their Saguenay campaigns on Wednesday beginning at 4 p.,m..
