Robillard-Millette and Zhao fall in the quarter-finals

Saguenay, October 23, 2015 – The semifinals are set at the $50,000 Saguenay National Bank Challenger.

After an impressive victory over Shahar Peer on Thursday, Charlotte Robillard-Millette (Blainville, QC) was in tough once again against sixth-seeded American Maria Sanchez. The first set was tightly disputed with both players going for the shots. Robillard-Millette came from a break down to level the match at 5-5, but Sanchez reeled off eight straight games to secure her semifinal spot with a 7-5, 6-0 victory.

“I had trouble staying in the rallies. She (Sanchez) was hitting the ball really well, especially off the backhand side,” Robillard-Millette said after the match. “I didn’t play my best match today, but I had a good week and there’s a lot for me to learn from.”

Friday’s night session featured Carol Zhao (Richmond Hill, ON) taking on Amra Sadikovic of Switzerland. Playing Saguenay for the fourth time in her, Sadikovic advanced to the semifinals for the first time thanks to a 6-4, 6-4 win.

“She (Sadikovic) served really well and took the ball early so it was hard to find my rhythm,” Zhao said after the match. “The difference in the match was just one break in each set, but she was able to play her best tennis in the important moments.”

Sanchez and Sadikovic will meet in Saturday’s semifinals. The other final four matchup will see American qualifier Nadja Gilchrist take on last year’s Saguenay finalist and crowd favourite, Jovana Jaksic of Serbia.

Sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the $50,000 Saguenay National Bank Challenger is being held until October 25.
