The singles final of the ninth edition of the $50,000 Saguenay National Bank Challenger was contested on Sunday and featured a 31-year-old veteran in France’s Julie Coin and a fast rising star in Serbian Jovana Jaksic.
Jaksic got off to a strong start, but Coin managed to erase a 3-5 deficit, winning four consecutive games to take the first set. The world no. 332 carried her momentum into the second frame and posted a 7-5, 6-3 victory to capture her first ITF Challenger Circuit title of the season and seventh of her career. Coin is the first Frenchwoman to be crowned champion of the Saguenay National Bank Challenger. Coin is a regular on the Canadian Challenger circuit. She was a quarter-finalist at the Gatineau National Bank Challenger and a semifinalist in Granby this summer.
