Three Canadians were among the eight players trying to qualify for the main draw of the $50,000 Saguenay National Bank Challenger on Monday. Charlotte Robillard-Millette (Blainville, QC) and Katherine Sebov (Toronto, ON) both earned a spot in the main draw while Isabelle Boulais (Mississauga, ON) was defeated.

Sebov upset third-seeded Mari Osaka of Japan 6-4, 6-2. She will face world no. 529 Naomi Totka of Hungary in the first round of the main draw.

For her part, fourth-seeded Robillard-Millette was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over American Brynn Boren. The 17-year-old Canadian lost just eight games in her two qualifying matches.

“I got off to a great start and that gave me confidence. The second set was a bit more complicated, she made some adjustments in her game, but I was able to stay focused until the end,” Robillard-Millette said after the match.

Robillard-Millette will take on American Jessica Pegula in the opening round on Tuesday night.

Several Canadians will begin their Saguenay campaign on Tuesday. Gabriela Dabrowski (Ottawa, ON) will take on American Maria Sanchez at 11:30 a.m. The night session will get underway at 6:30 p.m. with Bianca Vanessa Andreescu (Mississauga, ON) taking on defending champion Jovana Jaksic of Serbia followed by Robillard-Millette against Pegula.
